Latest News

Nuffield's news can be found here.

Nuffield Hospitals was established in 1957 and has been providing high quality healthcare services to local communities ever since.

Our mission is the delivery of safe, affordable and accessible healthcare to anyone who needs it.

As a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity, Nuffield Hospitals does not have shareholders. We reinvest our entire surplus back into improving and growing our services to customers, investing in areas such as improved facilities, modern technology and specialist equipment.

Nuffield Hospitals continues to grow and is extending into new areas. We currently have 32 hospitals (31 in England and one in Scotland) and our services now include employee health and wellness (Nuffield Proactive Health) and Europe’s largest and most modern fleet of mobile hospitals and operating theatres (Vanguard Healthcare).

We recently celebrated 50 years at the forefront of independent healthcare, and you can learn more about our history here.

As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, Nuffield Hospitals has initiated Healthspeak, a debate on the use of language in healthcare. Are we using the right words to get the best from healthcare today? You can join the debate at www.healthspeak.org.uk

Structure and Governance

Nuffield Hospitals is both a registered charity (the Trust) and a company limited by guarantee. We must behave like a charity, and adhere to charitable purposes, but can trade like a normal company. Our charitable status is a guarantee that any operating surpluses are reinvested for the improvement of services, rather than being removed from the company as dividends, and that the assets of the Trust may only ever be used for charitable purposes consistent with the wishes of the founders. Nuffield Hospitals has a special dispensation from Companies House allowing us to avoid appending the "Ltd" generally used.

Nuffield Hospitals is managed by the Board of Governors, who are both directors of the Company and the Trustees of the Charity. The Governors delegate day to day executive authority to the Chief Executive, and Nuffield Hospitals also has unpaid non-executive members, comprised of individuals who have made significant contributions to Nuffield Hospitals or to healthcare generally, who hold the Board to account at each Annual General Meeting.

Nuffield Hospitals is a registered charity number 205533
