Do I need to have private medical insurance to be treated at Nuffield Hospitals?

No, you do not need private medical insurance to come to Nuffield Hospitals, our hospitals are open to everyone.

Will I always need to go to my GP to get a referral?

For most procedures, a GP referral is required. This is for your benefit as your GP has access to your medical history, which will be helpful to your consultant and us. There are some treatments available without a GP referral and your local Nuffield Hospital will be happy to advise you of these.

Can I be treated in a Nuffield Hospital in the UK if I live abroad?

Nuffield Hospitals treat many patients from overseas including patients who cannot obtain a specific treatment in their own country, or simply those wishing to be treated in the UK.

If you would like to receive treatment in the UK, please send an enquiry to a conveniently located Nuffield Hospital.

Can I book directly with the hospital?

While most surgical procedures will require a GP referral, there are some treatments and services that can be booked directly with your chosen Nuffield Hospital.

Our visiting hours are flexible and visitors are welcome at any time of day to a Nuffield Hospital, as long as it does not interfere with your treatment and recovery.

Can the NHS pay for my treatment?

As part of a government initiative to reduce NHS waiting lists, agreements exist between some NHS Trusts and Nuffield Hospitals.

For some specialties, you might be offered a choice through Choose and Book to go to a Nuffield Hospital to have your treatment. This will dependent on the agreements with your local Primary Care Trust.

Please speak to your GP or contact your local NHS Trust to see what is available in your local area.
