Patient ChoiceNuffield Hospitals and the NHSUnder the Department of Health's initiative to help reduce waiting times for patients, the NHS has increased capacity. New treatment centres have been developed and they have started to use Independent Sector providers to treat patients waiting for elective surgery as part of the Patient Choice policy.Nuffield Hospitals and the NHS partnership upholds the NHS principle of service delivered free at the point of access, without impacting on our ability to provide the high level of service, choice and quality of care. Nuffield Hospitals has been undertaking NHS waiting list reduction work for many years and now continues this work through the following initiatives. Choose and BookIn December 2005, the Choose and Book system was introduced at Nuffield Hospitals, enabling electronic referrals and a choice of time, date and place for first outpatient appointment and booking. Extended Choice Network (ECN)Nuffield Hospitals are participating in the Extended Choice Network* and services will be available soon. All 39 Nuffield Hospitals in England will be accepting referrals as part of this scheme by the end of March 2007.
